NEWS, AWARDS, AND HONORS:
In the "Super Bowl of Jazz's" 30th year, 30 finalists were selected from 127 schools, a record number.
Quinn Knox (alto saxophone), Chloe Madrak (tenor saxophone), and Kiki Melick (drums) received outstanding musician awards.
Hall CJB also received an Oustanding Saxophone Section award.
Our Jazz Ensemble gave a strong performance and was cited for outstanding rhythm, saxophone/woodwind, trumpet, and trombone sections. They were one of only 2 bands (out of 15) who received all four of the section awards that were being given out. Several students were also named outstanding soloists: Rachel Schoenfeld, Brian Hartmann, Hadley Smith, Anya Mantripragada, and Sophie Barnes.
HALL CONCERT JAZZ BAND PLACES FIRST IN THE
Hall's Concert Jazz Band took first place at the Charles Mingus Competition. They also took home the achievement of "Best Woodwind Section" and Oustanding soloists! (Nathan Ben Ari, Drums; Chloe Madrak, Tenor Sax).
The Big Band category there was fierce competition with Newark Academy, Boston Latin High and Newton South High all playing spectacular sets celebrating the music of Charles Mingus!
The Navy's premiere jazz ensemble spent the morning giving clinics to both the Hall Concert Jazz Band and Jazz Ensemble. They concluded their visit with a thrilling performance. Thank you for including us in your Northeast Tour!
Hall High Concert Jazz Band performs with Sherman Irby to close the 33rd Annual Greater Hartford Festival of Jazz, Sunday July 21st.
HALL CONCERT JAZZ BAND PLACES FIRST IN THE
The band received "Outstanding Brass Section" and "Outstanding Rhythm Section" awards.
Chloe Madrak (Tenor Saxophone), Adam Ward (Tenor Saxophone), Pri Magavi (Trombone), and Jeremy Baun (Drums) received Outstanding Soloist awards.
Additionally, Magavi and Baun received scholarships to The New School!
Hall's own Concert Jazz Band took home awards for Large Jazz Ensemble AND Latin Jazz Ensemble!
Our Concert Jazz Band performed along side top jazz bands in the country when Jazz at Lincoln Center hosted Essentially Ellington 2023, May 11-13, in New York City.
